Orrett Hyman known often as Omar Hyman has created successful enterprises spanning from the Leeds area of the UK to international business.
The surname Hyman has been traced back to his Jewish Lebanese Great Grandfather Henry Hyman. Henry Hyman was a Lebanese trader who travelled throughout Europe, spending much time in Spain before resting in the West Indies, where he married and had a family.
His son Lindon married Tamar and had several children in Jamaica, one of whom was Astley Hyman. Astley Hyman, Orrett's father, came over to the United Kingdom in the early 1950's, in a time when it could be made difficult for a man of colour to be a pioneer. However, with the tenacious attitude he became famous for, he did pioneer and slowly build successful businesses. One which he will most be remembered for is Cosmos Night club, frequented by nurses and police, provided a sunshine atmosphere with dancing and red stripe in the heart of inner city Leeds. Astley would always be seen greeting his guests, even in his later years. After a long fought battle with diabetes, Astley sadly passed away in October of 2008.
